Kawama Kasutu "Black Rainbow"

“Black Rainbow” is a collection of 6 prints created in 2023. These six prints are made up of one digital image printed in six different colors, altering the orientation of each colored digital print, with each color highlighting a moment within the journey of Black hair. Each moment is depicted through the use of screen printing over the digital print. the collection of images highlighting the complex journey of learning to care for black hair with a bright, bold, and playful tone.

Artist Bio:
Kawama Kasutu is a Zambian-born, self-taught multidisciplinary artist from Dartmouth NS. The Inspiration in her work often blooms from within her communities, and her passions for craftivism, community building, and self-expression. Kawama's Artist voice is bright and often full of patterns and figures inspired by her cultural heritage. Kawama’s work often highlights concepts of ‘art-making practices that engage or celebrate the Black body’, the ‘critical discourse on accessibility, inclusion, and social equity’, and the ‘artistic explorations at the intersection of the body and identity’
